Judiths AMOS/AMISS page
My AMOS/AMISS family line can presently be traced back to my 4th Great Grandparents Stephen AMISS and Mary MUMMERY who married in Folkestone, Kent in 1777, Stephen & Mary had a son William AMISS, who married Anne TAYLOR in Newington, Kent in 1804. They had seven children, child No. Five being my ancestor William AMISS, who was born in 1815 in Cheriton, William married Bridget MURRAY, William & Bridget had three children, John AMOS, born 1837, Mary Ann AMOS, born 1839, and my GGrandfather William Matthew AMOS, born in 1842 in Cheriton.
William Matthew AMOS married Mary CARPENTER and they had five children:
1)Alfred AMOS, born 1869 in Folkestone
2)Julius K AMOS, born 1872 in Folkestone
3)Frances L AMOS, born 1874 in Folkestone
4)Bertha E AMOS, born 1875 in Hythe
5)William Henry AMOS, born 1877 in Hythe, and moved to Dunston upon Tyne, Co Durham, see further down this page for more details.
Mary CARPENTER died before 1886.
William Matthew AMOS then married Mary Jane Kendal CORNES, a widow with three children, Amy CORNES,born 1877,George Henry CORNES,born 1879 & William Ashby CORNES, born 1881.
William Matthew AMOS & Mary Jane Kendal CORNES married in 1886 and had two children:
1)Archibald W E AMOS, born in Hythe in 1887.
2)Francis Victor Kendall AMOS, born in Hythe in 1888, Francis married Mary Ann CROSS younger sister of Elizabeth CROSS (See CROSS Pages) and emigrated to the USA, contact DAWN AMOS for further information.
William HenryAMOS born in Hythe, Kent in 1877, & Elizabeth CROSS were married at Christ Church, Dunston upon Tyne, Co Durham 4 Jun 1898.
Thier children were:
1)William Henry AMOS, born 1898 in Dunston, died 1899.
2)Mary Ann AMOS, born 1900 in Dunston, died 1904.
3) Henry Cross AMOS, born 1901 in Dunston, married Sarah BURN in Dunston in 1935, they had one child, Mary.
4)Elizabeth AMOS, my mother, born 1904 in Dunston, married Thomas RICHARDSON in Dunston in 1933, they had two children,
1)Clifford William RICHARDSON, born 1933 in Ebor, York, died in Bordon, Hampshire in 1937.
2)Judith Elizabeth RICHARDSON, born 1943 in Manchester, married Ian Thomas POLKINGHORNE in Prestwich, Manchester 1 Apr 1967, they had four children, Steven Thomas, Brian David, Judith Elizabeth & Janet Dorothy.
5)Mary Ann (Molly) AMOS, born 1907 in Dunston.
6)William Matthew AMOS, born 1909 in Dunston.
7)Ellen AMOS, born 1912 in Dunston, married Eric Ritson BROWN in Dunston in 1943, they had one child, David Richard BROWN, born 1944.
8)Bertha AMOS, born 1915 in Dunston.
9)Frances AMOS, born 1917 in Dunston, died 1968 in Dunston, Frances never married.
